Ball State

Center for Media Design

The Center for Media Design is a research and development facility focused on the creation, testing and practical application of digital technologies for business, classroom, home, and community.  These efforts are being accomplished through the Digital Exchange initiative – a program that explores how digital technology can innovatively and continuously promote the exchange of information in both educational and commercial environments.

The CMD's mission is to engage in multidisciplinary, digital media research and content development projects that explore how digital technology will touch the way we live, learn, work and play.  Through collaborations with industry, government and academic partners, the CMD is carrying out this mission by:

  • Generating a national model for innovative education in the digital media arts and sciences
  • Establishing a national digital media research and consultation agenda
  • Stimulating media-related industry growth in the State of Indiana through partnerships geared toward creating new products and business opportunities.

These goals are being implemented through an established Insight and Research unit, new Immersive Learning Institutes, and Tech Transfer and Incubation projects

Ball State and OEDN

One year ago, OEDN announced today the formation of an Academic ITV Software Developer Kit (AISDK) program with the Center for Media Design at Ball State University as its first participating school.

Ball State has been prototyping various interactive television applications using OCAP and EBIF tools over the past few months. With the help of Vinayak Tanksdale, Instructor of Computer Science, we're pleased to bring you regular updates from the program. Vinayak has designed vital software for a variety of groundbreaking projects since starting at Ball State in 2001. He's been able to work with faculty across disciplines on projects involving art, journalism, music and telecommunications.
